AFTERSCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

SIPA’s After School Enrichment Program provides positive, alternative activities that promote literacy, leadership sports skills and community involvement through Academics, Arts, and Athletic workshops. The atmosphere we provide for the youth of Historic Filipinotown and the surrounding cities is one of safety, fun, family, and encouragement, housed within the structured supervision of the SIPA Afterschool Enrichment Program Youth Activities Specialists.

Homework Lab

SIPA’s After School Enrichment Program’s main emphasis is the Homework and Tutoring Lab. Everyday of the week, for an hour or more, qualified tutors for all general school subjects are available for Middle School and Elementary School youth.

Afterschool Workshops

Three days out of the week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, SIPA’s After School Enrichment Program provides a variety of workshops. Currently we offer a choice each day.

Tuesdays the extracurricular workshops are Nutrition Class, where the youth learn about different types of foods and how to prepare them, and Arts & Crafts class, where the youth create a variety of pieces ranging from tie-dyed shirts, to puppets, to dioramas depicting multi-ethnic cultural modern events.

Wednesdays, the workshops offered are a Basketball clinic where the opportunities to learn discipline, teamwork and leadership lie within the sport. A Hula class is also available for the youth to participate in learning the culture of dance by a highly trained instructor. Both classes are for boys and girls.

A guitar class workshop, where the youths learn basic chords and strumming and eventually learn beginner to intermediate pop songs. A recital for the students.

 

Resources

Aside from the workshops and homework labs, at the youths disposal is a fully functional computer lab complete with friendly programs, internet access, and printer capabilities, as well as wide range of library books provided by the Los Angeles Public Library for referencing and recreation.  

Sacatella High School Program

For the local high school youth within the Historic Filipinotown community, SIPA also offers a program specifically designed for them. Tutoring, a computer lab, mentorship programs, a hip hop dance class, art workshops, and in house open mics and field trips are just a few of the many activities offered.
